We are proud to report that the SPVU has been awarded a British Heart Foundation grant of 201,508 pounds to fund research into the effects of Apelin in Pulmonary Hypertension. We are collaborating with the Pulmonary Hypertension Service at Hammersmith Hospital in London as well as the University of Edinburgh. The aim of our research is to investigate the effects that Apelin has on the lung circulation and to see whether there is potential for Apelin to be developed into a new treatment for pulmonary hypertension. Apelin is a small protein which has been shown to be beneficial in experimental models of Pulmonary Hypertension and this is the first study of Apelin in the human circulation. We are currently recruiting participants for the study. If you would like to find out more you can contact Dr Lauren Brash on 0141 211 8538.
